Whether you are in business and trying to create a professional impression, or a student struggling to get your is’s and are’s right, The Write Move can help you to do it right!
Corporate
The Write Move offers simple solutions to your corporate writing.
With The Write Move, you can enjoy professional, but personal, communication with your clients. You can now employ a communications professional without the responsibilities and costs associated with hiring someone on a permanent basis. In addition, you will only pay for the hours actually worked for you.
The Write Move can assist you by:
- Confirming what to say: I can answer the question: “What information should I include?”
- Confirming how to say it: The Write Move can edit your existing documents, or write new ones – depending on the needs of your company. Small mistakes can cost businesses dearly in corporate image and potential clients, but they can easily be avoided. If you have written an important email or newsletter that must create the right impression, email it to me first. I will check it and make suggestions. In other words, it will be your own work, just a little smoother.
- Putting it in the right format for your audience: What is the difference between a newsletter, press release and an article? Which format should you choose? I can help!
- Communicating with the media: The Write Move can send out information to the media for publishing.
- Creating better, more professional communication on an everyday basis: I can edit communication to create the right impression.
Students
The Write Move also offers tutoring assistance for students.
- Students (first and second language English speakers) often find the entry or their development in academic writing difficult and intimidating.
- Most of your marks are made up of assignments and exams – in other words, written assessments. If you have trouble communicating your ideas, it can have a severely negative impact on your results as well as your morale.
- I offer tutorial sessions during which I assist you to develop your academic and essay writing skills. I focus on your specific problems, whether it is clarity, structure, referencing or tone.
These one-and-a-half hour, one-on-one sessions ensure:
- undivided attention;
- complete focus on those concepts that you have not yet mastered; and,
- instant feedback regarding your problems and progress.
Depending on your needs, small group workshops (2 – 5 people) are also offered on request.
Translation
The Write Move can also assist you by translating English documents into Afrikaans, or vice versa.
Background
The Write Move – Background:
Even before I started The Write Move, I worked with tertiary students in the fields of literature as well as literacy development. With an undergraduate degree in Media, Communication and Culture, as well as Honours and Masters degrees in English Literature, you can rest assured that I have a long love-affair with the English language!
I love working with language. I also love helping others to communicate – or to become better at their communication. I always aim to improve a piece of writing by creating a simpler, smoother, clearer version of the original.
A few comments from clients:
- “Janine listens well and takes time and effort to understand what the client is really saying. The way she translates what I'm saying into what I actually want to say is refreshing and is what makes me trust her with my copy.” - Dave Coates, Poken Distributor
- “Janine is an expert when it comes to the flow of your content and makes it read like it was meant to be read. The Write Move has done some excellent work for me and I will be doing business with them in the future." - Justus Meyer, ion Media Solutions
- “I learned quite a lot from Janine. My written English is now polished and I write assignments with very little errors.” “Besides for the corrections her comments have also helped me understand many writing concepts that I didn’t know before.” Solomon Muhindi, postgraduate student
- “Janine’s critical eye and sharp editorial skills were invaluable in helping me craft a technical, yet coherent, doctoral thesis. Her feedback was clear, insightful, and always returned in a timely manner.” Dr Mary Grace Villanueva
Why Ask A Professional?
Why ask a professional to write or check your communication or copy?
Many people like the idea of writing their own copy. They often feel that they know their own clients or customers, know their own business and know what they want to communicate.
However, there are a few reasons why it might be better for you to contact a professional – and to make sure that they know exactly what you would like to convey:
It is important to remember that you are writing for an audience. When your audience reads the copy on your website, brochure or advertisement, a specific impression is created.
You could ask yourself:
- Are there typos? Spelling errors? If so, your reader will probably think that you are prone to miss the details.
- Is the tone too casual? Your reader may think that you are not professional. On the other hand, an overly formal tone might alienate a potential customer/client.
There are various other aspects to take in to consideration too. Does the copy flow from one point to the next, ensuring that the person reading it actually moves on to the next point with the text? Is it clear and to the point, not boring your reader with unnecessary details? Does it focus your reader’s attention to the points you would like him/her to focus on?
If you are going to spend the time and money to send communication to clients, make sure that you make the RIGHT impression.
